Carla Kikkert is a Dutch contemporary artist based on the Côte d’Azur in the South of France.
Her work is intuitive, expressive and deeply connected to emotion. Rather than beginning with a fixed idea, Carla allows each painting to evolve through layers of colour, texture and movement. Faces and human forms often emerge throughout this process, creating a balance between abstraction and figuration.
Her artistic journey has been shaped by a life lived across different countries, cultures and creative worlds. With a background in hospitality, interior design and event organisation, Carla has always been drawn to atmosphere, people and the way a space can make us feel. Today, these influences naturally find their way into her art.
For Carla, painting is not about perfection. It is about expression, freedom and creating something with a presence of its own.
From her base in the South of France, she creates original works for private collectors, interiors and inspiring spaces in France and internationally.
Carla is also the founder of Art Angels Côte d’Azur, an artistic initiative created to bring artists together and create opportunities to exhibit, connect and share their work with a wider audience.
“I don’t paint what I see. I paint what I feel.”
